Conscious Discipline Series: Self-Regulation

Conscious Discipline Series: Self-Regulation
Ever felt like all you do is discipline with no time to teach? Trying to control children is exhausting; teaching them to control themselves is exhilarating!
Date: Week of October 8th, 2012
Location: Aruba
Speaker: Jill Mollli

Self–regulation is more than just self-control or impulse control. It is the ability to manage your thoughts, emotions and actions to support healthy growth within yourself and others.

Current research on bully prevention indicates that traditional programs simply are not working! The missing ingredient in these programs is self-regulation. Research has shown that children’s self-regulatory behaviors in the early years are an accurate predictor of their school achievement in reading and mathematics (Blair & Razzz, 2007). Without self-regulation, teachers and children are unable to access the higher centers of their brains. Classroom management and academic achievement are impaired. Bullying becomes a way to get needs met. Why continue struggling? This is one workshop you can’t afford to miss!
